Description

Top-up Training for Door Supervisors costs £120. This course is the SIA Specification course. On 1st April 2021, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) announced new regulations requiring existing door supervisors to undergo additional training to renew their Door Supervisor license. The new qualification is a Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top-up) Training, which includes an e-learning self-study section. This change is effective as of a specified date to comply with SIA regulations.

The 2021 SIA course consists of several units, including Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry, Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry, and Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry. The number of practical elements in the training has also increased to help learners reinforce their knowledge. The practical assessments include Searching, Dealing with Conflict, Report/Statement Writing, and Using Communications Devices.

The expanded core learning common unit for all operatives includes Communication Skills, Incident Management, Health and Safety Procedures, Citizens’ Arrest, Protecting Vulnerable People, Emergency Procedures, Record Keeping, COVID-19, and Door Supervisors.

Door Supervisors require an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification to take top-up training. They will also learn to use equipment such as body-worn video recorders, breathalysers, and Personal Protective Equipment such as stab vests and needle/slash-resistant gloves. The training includes updated terror threat awareness and physical intervention skills training (knowledge and practical). There is enhanced content on the management of crowds.

Security guards also require an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification to take top-up training. Additional content covering personal safety and the risks associated with physical intervention is included. This includes content on how to identify situations that might compromise personal safety and the use of strategies like dynamic risk assessment. The training includes updated terror threat awareness.

Close Protection will have additional content covering sector-specific physical intervention skills training. A further announcement regarding this content will be made later. The new Close Protection qualification will likely be introduced at a later date.

The SIA aims to improve the basic skills, knowledge, and understanding of security operatives so that they can do their jobs more effectively. This will help to improve community safety and protect the public in the UK.
